Schett surprised Mats Wilander, Noah sang with fans

Eight edition of exceptional Tennis Champions exhibition in National Tennis Centre in Bratislava (December 1st) hosted seven stars – past champions and present players. Mats Wilander, Yannick Noah, Mansour Bahrami, Pat Cash, Petra Kvitova and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova together with very nice surprise of the evening Barbara Schett made unforgettable show.

An interesting ceremony took place in the beginning of the exhibition. Davis Cup finalists from 2005 were awarded - Dominik Hrbaty, Karol Kucera and Michal Mertinak were representing the Davis Cup team in Bratislava. Karol Beck and captain of the team Miloslav Mecir could not attend the small ceremony. "Is it already ten 10 years? Time flies so quickly, seems like yesterday," said Mertinak on court.

In the first singles of the evening, winner of eight grand slams Mats Wilander played against Wimbledon Winner from 1987 Pat Cash. Australian lost 4-6. Both legends are over 50 now, but they showed fans fantastic rallies and brought back memories from their professional careers. Both of them had no idea, who is one of the referees on their match. With black wig on her head, Barbara Schett, former Austrian player and nowadays Wilander’s colleague on Eurosport. "I did not know about it at all, I did not recognise Barbara. It was very pleasant," commented Wilander on the surprise of the evening.

Second singles match was played between two times Wimbledon Winner Petra Kvitova from Czech Republic and Slovakian number one Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. At 4-3 for Kvitova, Karol Kucera together with Martin Klizan came on the court to exchange few hits. Schmiedlova won at the end 7-5. "At least I beat her today, if I could not do it at US Open 2015," said Slovakian player.

After this match, there was place for charity, in which racquets from Wilander and Noah and trip to Wimbledon were sold for 5000 euros and racquets of Kvitova and Schmiedlova and Roland Garros trip for another 4000 euros. Money together with the entrance fees will be donated to STARS for STARS charity, supporting young athletes, including tennis player Viktoria Kuzmova. She was also shortly on the court, interviewed by Slavo Jurko.

Mix doubles closed the exhibition. Noah with Schmiedlova played against Kvitova and Bahrami. Mats Wilander and Pat Cash also joined the match in a very original way. Yannick Noah was the showman of the evening, who not only tried to act as Sharapova and Nadal, made funny faces to make Schmiedlova laugh but was excellent in communicating with the public. Fans were applauding him and therefore all the work on the court in the match was left for Schmiedlova. "I did not know it is so much fun. I enjoyed most playing with Yannick," laughed Schmiedlova.

At the very end, legendary Frenchman challenged the public to sing with him. "It was great. We all had great time on the court and made lot of fun together with fans. My next exhibition? Bratislava, of course!" promised Noah.
